Counselling Exeter. Anxiety information.

Anxiety is closely aligned to stress, the feelings can be similar: often about unknown situations and different issues. It is difficult to be anxious about past events.

Commonly  anxiety  is considered to have two principal  parts:

  • Anxiety concerning the present time and current events.
  • Anxiety concerning events or situations which are going to happen in the future.

"Present time anxiety", which  are concerns about events or situations which happening currently. Examples might  be a threatening dog or person, a near-miss traffic accident, a fall on a icy pavement, etc.

"Future time anxiety", which are concerns about events or situations which will happen, or be likely to happen, in the future. Examples might include a  scheduled driving test or other exam, an interview for an important job,  etc.
