Professional Conduct and Ethics:

During and after our therapeutic counselling relationship together I, as your Counsellor, will abide by the code of ethics laid down by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), of which I am an accredited member. These guidelines are available from the BACP website.

Session timings, frequency, duration:

Our sessions will normally be weekly, with duration of one hour. Sessions will commence and finish accurately on time.

To enable all clients to have their complete sessions, please do not arrive early for your appointment.

Please do not attend the sessions under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.

The initial number of sessions will be ____.   Reviews of progress and advancement will be included during counselling. After each review a further number of sessions may be mutually agreed.

Notice of finishing:

Ending the counselling sessions should be an event of congratulations and celebration. To facilitate that, a week’s notice of ending will be mutually provided to end the therapy.

Counselling relationship:

If we meet outside our counselling environment, I will not acknowledge our counselling relationship.

Fees, payments, cancellations:

The fees are £55 per session, or part of a session. Payment, by cheque or cash, is due at the beginning or before each session. This amount may be changed annually in March.

If you are unable to attend any of your appointments, please give at least 24 hours notice of cancellation. If less than 24 hrs notice is given, the session will be charged at the normal amount.

Confidentiality:

Our counselling sessions will be strictly confidential. I do not provide reports or letters to employers or others, including at the request of clients. I may make brief notes during and after the session for my professional purposes. I attend regular confidential supervision with a more experienced and qualified supervising counsellor, in accordance with BACP guidelines.

This confidentially would only be broken in the following circumstances:

1)         If I believed that you, or others, were in real or immediate danger.

I would discuss with you my intention, if practical, to inform any appropriate agencies or authorities for your protection and anyone else involved. I would then inform the appropriate organisation.

2)         I would have to divulge information if I was compelled to by statuary requirements, a court order or a subpoena from a court of law, adhering to the General  Data Protection Regulations of 2018.
